LOCAL TRAIN: HANOI - LAO CAI
The Ha Noi-Lao Cai trains runs every evening, departing
from Ha Noi Train Station at 120 Le Duan Street. Three run at
night, and one makes a day trip. The following are the trains
from Ha Noi to Lao Cai (PM: SP1, SP3, LC1) and vice versa (PM:
SP2, SP4, LC2; AM ) daily. The daytime route offers only hard
seats, whereas travelers can enjoy soft-sleepers,
Air-conditioned, four-berth cabins on the night trains.
TULICO TRAIN
Offer comfortable, air-conditioned soft sleepers. This
is not a separate or fancy train carriage like the
Victoria Express, but
rather part of the normal run (SP3 and SP4) between Hanoi and
Lao Cai. While this is not a luxurious train, it offers good
alternative transportation to Sa Pa from Ha Noi. It has soft
sleepers, A/C and clean four-berth or 2 berths cabins. You will
be provided with one bottle of water, a small snack and a
napkin.
FRIENDLY TRAIN
Friendly train, like the Tulico train, is not a
separate train, but offers soft sleepers, A/C and clean
four-berth cabins in 2 carriages which go with local trains (SP3
and SP4) between Hanoi and Lao Cai. You will be provided with
one bottle of water, a small snack and a napkin.
ROYAL TRAIN
To serve tourist requirements, the Royal Train is also
part of a regular train with 2 carriages in SP1 and SP2or SP3-
SP4 which offers A/ C, soft-sleepers and clean four-berth
cabins, wooden cabins.
LAO CAI - SAPA TRANSFER
The Ha Noi - Lao Cai train stops at Valley
Lao Cai, just 30 km from Sa Pa; in order to reach Sa Pa, you
will need to travel another hour and a half through a connecting
bus or private car. The bus stops at Sa Pa's main post office,
leaving you with a couple of minutes walk into town. It can also
stop at your hotel, depending upon the location of the hotel.
Ticket prices for connecting buses to Sa Pa are 2USD.
The tourist bus back to Lao Cai leaves from outside Sa Pa's
church. You can inquire with the staff in most hotels to
organize a jeep or bus back to Lao Cai train station for you.
(They will also organize the train tickets).

NOTE ON THE TICKET
We recommend that you choose the Soft Sleeper and the
Tulico or Royal trains for faster and cleaner
service.
We can purchase the return tickets from Ha Noi for the
Victoria Express, Tulico, Friendly or Royal
train..etc. or only one way service. Train tickets
are returned, 10% of the fare will be charged to
you.
Child fare: under 5 years: free of charge if sharing
bed with parent; 5 years/up: adult rate.
